Meet the Team

Julia Ragouzeos: ARAD (Adv.) ISTD (Adv.)   Principal

Julia trained in Folkestone from the age of 11yrs with Royal Academy of Dance examiner, Miss Elizabeth Glass, taking both her Elementary and Intermediate RAD and ISTD Ballet examinations in London.

Julia completed her vocational training at Andrew Hardie’s a full time professional college in South Kensington London where she successfully gained her Associates examinations in Advanced RAD and ISTD ballet.

Julia then performed with the ‘Ballet Minerva’ in London performing in key ballet performances. After dancing professionally Julia went on to gain a full-time ballet teaching position in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, where she also received training and experience in ISTD National and Greek Dance.

Julia returned to Folkestone in to open her own school at the Folkestone Metropole hotel, later expanding into the local villages. Julia also taught for Folkestone and Dover Adult Education Centre’s for many years teaching, Aerobics, Tap, Jazz and Ballet.

In 1971 Julia founded our present day studios, and with the help of her daughter Drou, has progressed and expanded over the years, along with the addition of our wonderful teachers.



Androulla Finch ‘Drou’  -  Studio Manager and Teacher

Drou started dancing from the age of 5 years old with her mum (Julia!) and gained vocational grades in Ballet, Modern and Tap.

Vocational training continued for Drou when she attended London College of Dance and from there went on to perform as a backing dancer both in the UK and in Greece.

On her return to the UK, Drou changed career and became an area manager, merchandising jewellery for approximately 5 years.

Drou returned to Folkestone in 2004 to manage the reception duties for Julia’s Studio and with her love of choreography created a Troupe performance class of which students are either invited into or successful on an audition process. Drou also teaches the Jazz Awards classes.        

In 2006 Drou became a partner in the business with Julia and our shop ‘Degage Dancewear’ was opened the same year. ‘Degage Dancewear’ has become very successful, being the only dance shop in the local area. Drou now manages the shop and is our trained pointe shoe fitter. Drou’s other duties include everyday managing of the studio including dealing with the financial side of the business.



Nina Rodgers: Dip. RAD RTS, DDE Modern Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre Dance Teacher 

Nina started her dance training at the age of 3 years old here at Julia’s Studio and has achieved vocational qualifications in Ballet and Modern Theatre Dance.  

Nina always wanted to work with children and went on to gain a Diploma in childcare.

At the age of 18yrs old Nina became an assistant teacher at Julia’s Studio.

Continuing with her training Nina studied with the Royal Academy of Dance and gained a Certificate in Dance Education.

Nina went on to study with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance and achieve a Diploma in Dance Education for Modern Theatre Dance.  

Continuing her professional development Nina has continued to train hard achieving her Advanced 2 Modern theatre dance exam.

Nina has over 14 years teaching experience and regularly attends courses throughout the year to keep up to date.



Rachael Kemp: AISTD, CBTS RAD RTS, DDE Tap and Modern Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre Dance Teacher

Rachael Studied dance from the age of 5 years old and at the age of 12yrs old was recommended to attend the Solihull school of Ballet before successfully gaining a place at the Vocational ballet school, Bush Davies school of Theatre Arts, where she boarded from the age of 13 years old for 3 years.

Rachael then when on to study at Laine Theatre Arts for a further 3 years gaining vocational qualifications in ISTD and RAD Ballet, Modern, Tap and National dance. Whilst at Laines Rachael achieved her teaching qualifications in Ballet and National Dance and a Diploma in Professional Dance.

Rachael worked for Costa Cruise Lines cruising the Caribbean, she then moved to Italy where she performed in variety shows and taught ballet.

On returning to the UK Rachael changed career gaining her certificate in Exercise to Music and becoming a fitness assessor and gym instructor. She then worked for British Airways as an Air Stewardess for a number of years, before returning to her love of teaching after having her children.

Rachael has worked at Julia’s Studio for 12 years and since joining has gained further teaching qualifications in RAD ballet (Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies) and Diplomas from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance in Dance Education for both Tap and Modern, as well as attending further continuing professional development courses.



James Middleton: MA Arts and Cultural Management, BA (Hons) Dance Education, AISTD Modern and Tap

Children’s Commercial and Contemporary teacher and adult Tap and Jazz teacher

James started dancing at the age of 11 years old and completed his professional training at The Centre Performing Arts College gaining his teaching certificates in Modern and Tap Dance.

Since graduating, James has gone on to perform and choreograph professionally in a variety of productions.  

A few of James’ Performing Credits include:

Theatre: Dancer, entertainment staff, Thomas Cook. Bud & Dude Skyline Gang Butlins, The Little Shop of Horrors Dance Captain/Assistant Choreographer, The Witches of Eastwick Dance Captain/Assistant Choreographer UCF Directed by Max Reynolds.

Television: A Question of Sport, Mystery guest backing dancer. Holby City, BBC 1, Swag! Channel 5

Tours: X Factor, Britain’s got Talent choreographed by Carol Todd, Same Difference choreographed by Brian Freedman, Children in Need, Chico Choreographed by David Wood.

Choreography: The Lord of the Flies Matthew Bourne, Big Red Shows Butlins, The Marlowe boys project, Zombie Prom Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Motion Alpha Dance Company  

James has recently continued his training by successfully achieving a BA (Hons) in Dance Education and following this an MA in Arts and Cultural Management.  

James brings his enthusiasm and creativity to our summer school productions every year and runs our popular adult jazz and tap classes as well as children’s classes in commercial and contemporary dance.



Jenny Farrow: ARAD, RAD TC Diploma Adult Ballet Teacher

Jenny’s ballet training led her to become a Junior Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance and from there successfully gained a scholarship from the Council for Dance Education and Training, to continue her studies at The Urdang Academy where she completed a 3year Classical Ballet Diploma.

Jenny has continued her training and has gained a Diploma from the British Ballet Oranization, The Royal Academy of Dance Professional Teaching Diploma, Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies and Diploma in Dance Education for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Jenny has danced professionally for the London City Ballet Company and the Vienna Festival Ballet, Austria where she danced as a soloist in a number of key ballets, touring the UK and Europe. Jenny has choreographed and performed jazz, contemporary and ballet dances for charity galas in London theatres, including the Rain Forest Foundation charity gala with Anton Du Beke.    

Jenny has experience in teaching children from the age of 3 through to adults and

is currently a freelance Dance Teacher.
